How One Designer Transformed a Cookie-Cutter Spec Home Into a WFH Paradise

When on the web internet marketing educator and podcaster Amy Porterfield and her husband created the transfer from California to Nashville in 2020, they wanted to convey their California roots to their new “touch-of-country” dwelling. And when a buddy referred them to Orange County designer Lindye Galloway, it was a match produced in layout heaven.

“We had a terrific marriage,” recollects Galloway. “They were incredibly easygoing. We experienced a whole lot of innovative freedom.”

The couple’s principal desire, as Galloway personalized the “underwhelming” spec household that they experienced bought for simplicity and velocity, was to deliver a sensation of California coastal living to the Southern city. And customize is specifically what she did—most of the house is adorned with bespoke items (along with products and solutions from the Lindye Galloway Shop).

“One of the things that was most significant to my purchasers was to bring the emotion of indoor-out of doors space,” suggests the designer. “We did that by generating a relaxed environment” that integrated “the excellent home on to the patio, with its fire and swinging chairs. It’s comfy, but elevated.”

When Galloway started the task, the major open spot was not a official entry but only “wasted room.” To solution that, she included a console and table to give a perception of entering the house.

Dwelling Home

This was Galloway’s beloved place of the household. “The tall ceilings delivered intriguing worries [that] allowed us to be far more inventive and find means to improve and highlight certain attributes, although infusing it with a sensation of warmth and coziness.” She carries on, “I generally like to develop statements.” In this scenario, that intended chairs with wooden and leather-based for a “California-fulfills-Tennessee come to feel.”

“What I like is that it’s open to the kitchen but it feels disconnected, so it feels a bit more formal. They needed a moody second, so we experienced tweed wallpaper designed in darkish green, a personalized table and leather chairs, and oversize pendants to fill the space” beneath the higher ceiling—a layout challenge all over the 6,800-square-foot property, Galloway suggests.

Kitchen

The starting issue was “simple and primary,” says Galloway, “so we altered every thing. We needed a tranquil experience but with a slight masculine touch”—hence the sandstone, the designer notes.

The client’s workforce operates remotely, but sometimes they gather in her house for conferences. She desired to stay away from an “office” vibe and retain items calm with her colleagues, so Galloway added an oversize sofa, sling chairs, an oversize coffee desk, and a desk for functioning or stop-of-day wine.

“Some of the client’s should-haves were being own places of work [including a recording studio] that really spoke to her distinct model though however getting purposeful for every day use,” recalls the designer.

The leather piping on the couch adds a heat contact, when ceramic disks get the place of a regular art piece. The landing at the major of the stairs is a passageway to the visitor region. “It’s a grounding minute for visitors,” she suggests, “with neutral, earthy tones.”

Principal Bedroom

This was a different significant, lofty ceilinged room, so Galloway loaded some of the top with a canopy mattress, and also brought in neutral tones and earthy factors. She extra a looking through nook beside the window to create an space for waking daily life in the area. Lastly, the family pet dog, Scout, is extremely essential to the shoppers, so she produced a personalized bench for the foot of the mattress. “It’s the perfect height for Scout to be in the vicinity of them at night—this doggy is residing in luxurious.”

“It has a cozy vibe, so an individual would want to hold out in the bed room, but it’s nevertheless elevated and styled,” states Galloway. “I love the bed.”

“The swinging chairs make a pleasurable setting,” says the designer, noting that her shopper performs from home—and in some cases operates while swinging in a single of the chairs. (Every single imaginative really should be so lucky!)
